A Very Belated Easter Day Water Marble

Yes, Easter was a week ago and for those of you who follow us on FB would've gotten a sneak preview of the water marbling design I did for Easter Day. So sorry for the delay in updates as work has been pretty hectic as well as the personal life.

For this Easter Day water marble, I used the pastels from China Glaze's Up & Away Collection (Spring 2010).

Colours used:Yellow - Lemon Fizz
Light Green - Re-Freshmint (somehow this colour ended up light blue on the marble); and
Lavender - Light As Air

I decided on the zigzag pattern to best decipher the designs commonly used on an easter egg.

And the end result was this... 

So happened I had an egg cup holder (from a Malay wedding I previously attended) and used it as prop. Hehehe... 

Now my partner in crime would never approve of these few pics but I'm sure the readers won't mind hor? 

Here are the individual designs of the marbling on the nails. Please excuse the dry cuticles and some messy spots. I finished the marble at 2am and I was in dire need of sleep.

As you can see the right hand was super messy cos I was already too tired to do a proper cleanup... I also had some problem with bubbles this time around. Til next time. Cheers.

My very first haul

This is a backdated post on my very first haul. I got my very first China Glaze & Color Club polishes in this haul and also a first whiff of my Seche Vite Quick Dry Topcoat.

I was looking at this in such happiness... contemplating the lovelies inside... 

The packaging was lovingly wrapped securely in bubblewraps to ensure the fragile goods inside don't get damaged.

Them lovelies inside... I'll introduce them to you in a bit...

My first China Glaze!!! All three polishes from China Glaze's Up & Away Collection.

L-R: Lemon Fizz, Light as Air & Re-freshmint. All lovely shades of creme in colours I don't usually use. Thought they might be lovely for marbling.

My first Color Club from their Pardon My French Collection, Take Me to Your Chateau. A lovely baby blue creme polish.

I also got me another blue holo from OPI's Designer Series. This one's called Sapphire.

Surprisingly the colours weren't the thing I was waiting for I couldn't wait to try out these babies. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat & Seche Restore. Ok, fine. Seche Restore I won't be using any time soon but man... to see whether Seche Vite's claims were true to their words was something I couldn't wait.

St. Patrick's Day Themed Nails - Going Green

We Malaysians are blessed with abundant holidays compared to other countries and yet it doesn't seem to be enough for us. During recent years, we have seen a huge increase in promoting holidays celebrated around the globe (especially if it's fashioned around booze).

Tomorrow marks yet another well-known and celebrated day in Ireland. St. Patrick's Day people!!! Yeap. It's that time of the year to don the colour green, the leprechaun hat and shamrocks!

Nail-ChitChat has our own way of celebrating St. Patrick's Day this year and we have come up with two (actually three but the 3rd one is more of a second attempt) different ways we'll be wearing our nails to celebrate this festival (who doesn't like an excuse to drink?). Plus green looks oh so lovely againt a pint o lager.

Ok. Enough chatter.

Going Green (Attempt 1)
This was actually my very first attempt at drag marbling but at that time I didn't have a theme in mind and whilst browsing through my albums sorting them into posts, I thought this would go very well since I did it in different shades of green.

This green was from my very first haul which also marks my first China Glaze Polish. Re-freshmint from China Glaze's Up & Away Collection. A pale mint green with a cream finish.

I did the dragging with some nailart strippers (as shown) which I bought from the local night market. Selling at RM10 for 3 bottles I believe but they dry out pretty fast. I'm not sure if these are still usable or not. Will need to check on it.

This picture was before topcoat. You can see bald spots where I dragged the polish. I also got this like super topcoat in my first haul which claimed to be super fast drying and from the reviews of other nail bloggers it seems to work as promised.

Introducing Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and Seche Restore. Apologise for the blurry photo. I was so excited to get my very first nail polish haul in brands of polish that I have not heard of ever in Malaysia. Basically Seche Restore is a thinning liquid in case the top coat gets dry as they claim no other brands are suited to thin the topcoat if the consistency gets too thick. Being kiasu & kiasi I didn't dare test that out as I only have that one bottle of Seche Vite top coat. But both these items were patented so it should not be pulling my leg right?

And.... walla... as promised... No more drag marks has been reduced to a bare minimum. Very happy that this top coat delivered.

I wasn't very happy with the outcome of this and since I already got the gist of the technique I decided to redo it (I'm fussy that way).

Going Green (Attempt 2)
I used the same base colour and the dark green nailart stripper but replaced the light green with a gold this time and I was much happier with this colour combination.

Pre-CNY Manicures

I'm soooooo behind with my blog entries. Playing catch up again but I guess let me post the latest manicures first (at this rate I'll never get around to posting the older manicures)...

So since I'm trying to play catch up here, please be warned there'll be a lot of photos.

First up, I had to chop of my talons as they were getting to be a tad too long so being lazy to do my own nails by myself I went to my trusty manicurist. Unfortunately when she snipped, the nail on my right thumb cracked too much and I ended up with nubbins. Totally not her fault though, that's the only flaw of my nails. The tendency to crack when trimming them down.

Sobs... My family and friends told me to stop whining cos the length was perfectly fine but after having them long for such a long time my nails looked stunted to me... (secretly I guess they envy my long nails)

About a week before CNY, I was scheduled to head down to Pasir Gudang for work and I'd be travelling with some new work colleagues for a different project so I decided to play it safe and go for more professional colours (since I'll also be seeing the client for the first time).

It also gave me a good excuse to finally use my Color Club High Society greige (greyish beige). It's a grey with a hint of beige and sometimes at different lighting it looks a bit lavender.

Totally heart this but I'm still looking for a completely grey polish. Zoya's Dove looks like a good candidate from the swatches I've seen.

I left it as it is as I had to do a manicure for a friend during the weekend in case I messed up my own manicure so I don't have to redo too much.

I wanted to try a new technique on her but it kinda failed as my hands were shaking so it was hard to keep a steady hand that day. I suspect I was too hungry cos we didn't have lunch when we started so we ended up with this instead.

The gold was China Glaze's Midnight Kiss and the black was Color Club's Revvvolution. The contract was too harsh so I decided to add Nubar 2010 to give it a bit of orangy tint.

We decided to use the gold as accent nails and I did some drag marbling. I initially wanted to do the same to all five fingers but due to my shaky hands, it was very difficult to get the precision needed for this design so we  opted for two nails on each hand instead.

A close up of the foil effect and the accent nail but the image was shaky due to my hands. My camera couldn't focus properly... =.=

Once I was done with hers, I was bored with my standard mani so I decided to try the initial design I was going for (after I've filled my tum). So here it is.

See how in white light it takes on a lavender hue and in darker settings you see the brown tint? This is another drag effect marbling. Nice and simple yet not boring. Totally work friendly.
